Natural vineyards

Image gallery vigneti naturaliThe fundamental principles of Roagna can be summarized in the concept of forest. A natural environment is the perfect habitat for life, our family helps the vines in its vegetative and productive stages without forcing it. The soil is permanently with grass and you can appreciate a lot of turf with different species of grass. If it was to be cut or killed, many species would die at the expense of biodiversity.

We are confident that the humus produced by hundreds of different herbs is much more complex than that obtained from a single variety. Depending on the vine in the vineyard you will sometimes find clumps of wild mint, rather than field beans you will find legumes and wild herbs from a multitude of fragrant flowers.
Why destroy this biodiversity?

We believe that green harvesting is necessary on young vines due to an imbalance in the plant before it reaches 20 years. Fortunately, as they grow older the vines get into balance and will be well adapted when they reach an age of about 50 years. In the sands of Pira we still have some ungrafted vines.
We believe in the importance of historic vineyards and old vines. When a vine dies it is replaced through mass selection; with a vine that was born in the same vineyard. We hate the clones!
