Vineyards

Barbaresco Montefico

The name is derived from the Piemontese dialect Montefico (mont der fi), and it is one of the historic vineyards located within the village of Barbaresco.

Our parcel is halfway up the hill in the middle section of the amphitheater facing the village of Neive. The surface area for our vines comprise a total of 0.24 Hectare (0.59 Acre). Our Montefico vineyard was purchased by our family in 1929.

We have been making wine from this vineyard longer than any other single parcel we currently own.

The vineyard is planted in the shape of a small triangle and is Southeast facing at an altitude of 230 Meters above seal level. The soil was formed during the Tertiary (Cenozoic) period approximately seventy-million years ago as a result of marine sedimentation founder under the ocean which covered all of our land. The vineyard of Montefico is located in the eastern part of the village of Barbaresco where there is limestone clay and significant presence of marl. In Montefico we have old vines of Nebbiolo including some which were planted just after the onset of phylloxera.
